I would like to warmly welcome your interest in studying at the University of Nicosia, and encourage you to learn more about it by browsing our website.
The University of Nicosia is a forward-looking multicultural university with an international outlook, and the student, whether Cypriot or international, is at the centre of our attention. High quality teaching and learning continues to be in the forefront of our efforts. We have a young, active and international faculty, and all share the objective of further moving along the way from a teacher-centred learning environment to a student-centred learning environment.
We are leaders in offering new programmes of study both independently and in cooperation with distinguished UK universities, and this is particularly indicated by the fact that we have the first medical school in Cyprus, in partnership with St George’s Medical School, University of London, which attracts an international group of students from a number of countries, prominently including the United States, Europe, and as far as Australia and New Zealand. We have introduced a number of pioneering programmes within the fields of Life and Health Sciences, Energy, Oil and Gas, Environmental Studies, Engineering, International Relations, and Education. The criteria for the introduction of these programmes are both their academic value and their contribution to the economic stability and social development of our societies.
As in other universities aspiring to excellence, research is important at our University, and our faculty has been for a number of years attracting research funds from Cyprus and from other European countries. The University is currently involved in several funded projects at the National, European Union, and International levels.
Maintaining and further developing our European and International outlook is another important objective of the University. One of the components of this objective is to continue to foster multiculturalism as a central value of the University. Significantly, we have very much strengthened our capacity to offer our programmes internationally, through our Distance Learning Programmes of Study which have been successfully evaluated by national and international regulators. The University of Nicosia was also the first university in Cyprus to be awarded a UNESCO Chair (on Cultural Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue for a Culture of Peace).
The University of Nicosia was awarded in 2012 the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) label, and the Diploma Supplement Label was renewed in 2013. This enhances our European credentials, in addition to the existence of a European Documentation Centre in our Library, and a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Politics and Policies.
One of the strengths of our university is that we strive to have an efficient and people-centred administration, and in recognition of this, we were awarded the prestigious “Investors in People” accreditation while recently the University of Nicosia became the first and only university in Cyprus and Greece to reach the EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management) recognition level “Recognised for Excellence – 5 Stars”.
